Stress shadow effect during multi-stage hydraulic fracturing with different wellbore arrangements

چکیده
Abstract Multi-stage hydraulic fracturing was simulated using a two-dimensional universal distinct element code (UDEC). Five stages were considered along horizontally (i.e. parallel to the minor principal stress direction)- and diagonally inclined direction)-positioned wellbores within pay zone, where spacing between wells changed 50 m 100 m. Progressive fracture propagation evolution of shadow with sequential multi-stage monitored. A marked observed for closer well spacings under both horizontal diagonal arrangements, leading significantly asymmetric about wellbore. The arrangement showed nearly unidirectional after first stage case. Fractures predominantly developed in alternating directions at greater irrespective wellbore arrangement. development also that fractures created earlier could further extend due later stages, this effect is more pronounced spacings. After five overall lengths indicate higher fractured area by any case spacing. Finally, importance optimizing controllability contain zone highlighted.

Stress redistribution in multi-stage hydraulic fracturing of horizontal wells in shales
Multi-stage hydraulic fracturing of horizontal wells is the main stimulation method in recovering gas from tight shale gas reservoirs, and stage spacing determination is one of the key issues in fracturing design. The initiation and propagation of hydraulic fractures will cause stress redistribution and may activate natural fractures in the reservoir. Due to the limitation of the analytical met...
متن کاملSelf-Potential Observations During Hydraulic Fracturing
The self-potential (SP) response during hydraulic fracturing of intact Sierra granite was investigated in the laboratory. Excellent correlation of pressure drop and SP suggests that the SP response is created primarily by electrokinetic coupling. For low pressures, the variation of SP with pressure drop is linear, indicating a constant coupling coefficient (Cc) of -200 mV/MPa. However for press...
متن کاملImproved reagent delivery using hydraulic fracturing during enhanced reductive dechlorination
In-situ remedial strategies that involve the injection of a remedial fluid offer much promise for cost-effectively treating groundwater contaminants such as chlorinated solvent compounds, nitrated explosives, and perchlorate. The successful implementation of many in-situ remediation projects is dependant on the ability to develop an efficient and effective system for the delivery of the necessa...
متن کاملOccupational exposures to respirable crystalline silica during hydraulic fracturing.
This report describes a previously uncharacterized occupational health hazard: work crew exposures to respirable crystalline silica during hydraulic fracturing. Hydraulic fracturing involves high pressure injection of large volumes of water and sand, and smaller quantities of well treatment chemicals, into a gas or oil well to fracture shale or other rock formations, allowing more efficient rec...
